A CHILDREN'S PARTY.

Many mothers feel that they would like a little help in giving a first party for children, or a little inspiration in arranging fresh entertainment when they have already been hostesses to little folk a good many times. A winter sports invitation is a novelty. The room chosen for the party is made to look as much, like the snow regions as possible. The floor is sprinkled with frosting. Chairs end couches are all covered with whit® sheets and sprinkled with frosting to simulate snow. The lights should be enclosed in green paper in order to simulate a northern light, and plenty of white confetti should be to hand for the guests to throw at each other like snow. - His party may take the form of a dance or an ordinary games party. If a dance, some of the numbers might bo arranged as ' skating ' contests, and prizes given for the best display of exhibition 'skating' (really dancing), both singly and in couples. . . . The surprise of the evening will come at the end when someone disguised as a polar bear, or as a snowman, will creep out from underneath a frosted mountain. This decorates one end of the room, and underneath it are concealed gifts for all the guests. . . The illusion of the winter sports party could, of course, be carried further if the guests were asked to come in suitable fancy costumes.
