BAPTIST CONFERENCE.

THE NEW ZEALAND UNION. FORTY-THIRD ASSEMBLY. The Baptist Union of New Zealand, acting isi conjunction with the New Zealand I Baptist Missionary Society, will open its forty-third annual assembly in the Tabernacle to-morrow. Union committee meetings will be held from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and from 2 to 3.15 p.m., after which a missionary committee meeting will take place. At 6 p.m. a delegates' welcome tea will be held. Among those who will give welcome speeches at the gathering will be Mr. F. Eade, the president of the Auckland Auxiliary, Mr. A. T. Dow, the hon. secretary of the conference committee, the Rav. Dr. C. H. Laws, principal of the Methodist Theological College, and the Rev. Stanley Morrison, of the Mount Eden Congregational Church. The evening session will commence at 7.30 p.m., the Rev. J. W. Kemp taking the chair. During this session the B-ev. H. Knowles Kempton, of Dunedin, an ex-pastor of the Tabernacle, will unveil a tablet in memory of the late Mr. Seering Matthews, who was the first treasurer of the New Zealand Baptist Union and an honoured member of the Tabernacle. In addition to his long association with the Tabernacle, of which ho was a member for 50 years, Mr. Matthews was a welli known Auckland business man. He came here as a lad of nine and at the time of his death in June of last year had been a resident of the city for 76 years. The presidential address will be delivered during the evening by the Rev. A further business session in the afternoon will be concluded with another devotional service led by Mrs. H. G. Hercus, at 3.15 p.m. The Women's Missionary Union will also hold a public meeting on Monday afternoon, i when the presidential address, entitled 1 " Helpers Together," will be delivered.
