HOCKEY COMPETITIONS.
JUNIOR CHALLENGE CUP. FINAL NEXT SATURDAY. The Training College team had no difficulty in defeating St. Luke's, last year's winners of the Junior Cballange Cup, in the final game of the second grade at Remuera on Saturday. They will now play Somerville, winners of the third grade knock-out competition, in the final next Saturday. Training College revealed splendid combination sad excellent tactics against St. Luke's, and they practically monopolised the play. Every forward scored at least one goal—a unique performance. Burton, at centre, ably /controlled the ball and initiated many fine movements. Brown and Rossiter also gave capital expositions of forward play. The halfbacks were instrumental m checking the opposing forwards and in making nice openings for their own vanguard. Pyne, the centrehalf, was brilliant. Both fullbacks played well, .Toll in particular showing soundness all round. The most prominent players for St." Luke's were Potter and Dillicar in the for wards and B. Williams and Holmes in the backs. Frequent eases of obstruction, and a tendency to play the man instead of the ball were regrettable features of the game In the fourth grade knock-out contest St. Paul's beat Waitemata only after 45 minutes extra play; the margin in their favour being a penal: y corner. In the actual play Waitemata had rather the better of matters and only breaches caused by over-eagerness prevented them from adding to the score. St. Paul's will now oppose Mount Eden next Saturday in the fourth grade riuaJL
