EPSOM METHODIST CHURCH.

NEW INFANT CLASSROOM.

FOUNDATION - STONE LAID

The foundation stone of a new brick infant classroom in connection with the Epsom Methodist Church was laid on Saturday by Sir James Gun son, superintendent of the Sunday School.

After the ceremony those present adjourned to the church, where the Rev. E. Drake, minister of the church, outlined the building scheme. He said that it provided for the exterior renovation of the church, addition of brick vestries, a kitchen, and of the infant classroom, to accommodate 120 children. The cost of th » schema was £2IOO, of which amount £BOO was m hand.

Sir James Gnnson, who was presented with a handsome oak maliet, spoke of the phenomenal growth of the school since it, was started in a tent 14 years ajjo. The present premises were hopelessly inadequate, and the present scheme would only partially relieve the pressure. The com plete scheme would involve an entirely new Sunday School with accommodation for 450 scholars, but that scheme would not be complete for some little time. Sunday School work was of incalculable benefit to the community, and needed the best type of men and women as workers. Greetings to the school were brought by Mr. H. Dearsley, president of the Auckland Sunday School Union. A collection taken up during the service realised £53.
