YACHT IN A GALE.

ROUGH TRIP UP THE COAST. WELLINGTON TO AUCKLAND. A voyage from Wellington to Auckland was completed on Saturday morning by the Wellington yacht Wanderer. The long trip was done in exactly a week, as the Wanderer left Wellington on the previous Saturday morning at eight o'clock, and anchored in St. Mary's Bay at the same time of the day a week later. The owner of the Wanderer, which is a 40ft. yacht, is Mr. W. Olsson, formerly of Auckland. He was in command and the crew consisted of Messrs. H. Hanson, P. North and N. Robinson. The yacht was favoured with a fair following wind on leaving Wellington, and the trip commenced with good runs. Castlepoint was passed in 14 hours, and Cape Kidnappers in 23 hours. On Monday a calm was experienced, and the angina was used for two hours and for the only time during the trip. On rounding East Cape, the Wanderer met with a, freshening north-easterly gale, which increased in force till it became almost of a cyclonic nature. The yacht lay hove-to for 19 hours in the Bay of Plenty. The crew had a most uncomfortable time, and everything on board became very wet. However, the yacht stood the gale and the heavy seas well, and when the weather moderated, continued the trip across the Bay of Plenty. A head wind from Cape Colville meant further delay, and on Friday evening the Wanderer anchored in Islington Bay for the night. She came into the inner harbour the next morning, and after dropping anchor in St. Mary's Bay, later moored inside the eastern reclamation at Mechanics' Bay.

The crew describe the trip as a very good one, and had the good weather held for the latter part of the week, the voyage would have been done in very* fast time. The Wanderer, which was formerly well known in Auckland, has been owned by Mr. Olsson for a season. Last year she was very successful in racing at Welling ton. Mr. Olsson expects to keep the ya-eht at Auckland for some time, and may take part in racing here this summer.
