Consternation was created among the racegoers at Randwick yesterday when it was discovered that hundreds of people were in possession of non-official racecards. The discovery was made just before the first race started. The false books had a similar appearance to that of the official cards , except, that they were pink instead of blue. Examination showed that they contained numerous errors, including wrong numbering. This led unwary purchasers of the unofficial race-card, who failed to notice the official warning which was posted as soon as the discovery was mads, to back the wrong numbers. Some lost heavily as a result. Detectives quickly got to work and arrested a man on the coarse. They later arrested three other men and two boys, and seized a complete printing plant, which is said to have been used for printing the forgeries. The detectiTes also discovered £IOO in florins alleged'' to have been part of the proceeds of the sale of the false racecards. Another sensation was caused by thieves taking advantage of the bustle after the last race and snatching a bag from a bookmaker, Jack Mandel. The bag contained £2500 in bank-notes The thieves escaped.
