MORE REVENUE FOR LIBRARY. '■ | ; [by telegraph.—own COBKESPONDENT.] NGAEUAWAHIA, Saturday. Interest was taken in the sale last Friday of the lease of the library block in Jesmond Street for the purchase of which the ratepayers had sanctioned a loan of £ISOO. Bidding was brisk until the limit fixed by th« Borough Council was reached, when the lease was knocked down to the previous bolder at a rental of £l2l per annum. The previous rental was £4O per annum. This will put the library on a very satisfactory financial footing. Ngaruawahia has what is probably the best public iibrary for any town of its size in the Dominion. The shelves carry nearly 6000 volumes, including many of a solid character. The Glen Massey Golf Clnb closed its season on .Saturday. It is the intention of the Colliery Company to build a pavilion for the club before next season. The local tenni3 clubs are holding their openings. -The Ngaruawahia and laapiri Clubs nave each laid down an additional concrete court this year. Both dubs have large memberships and the game is very popular. The staff at the Ngaruawahia military camp is preparing for some summer recreation lor the employees of the Public Works Department. They are inquiring into the possibilities of establishing bowk, tennis and cricket. •' There is a movement on foot to extend the operations of the Central Electric Power Board to include the Glen Massey district and inquiries are being,made as to the probable demand for power. The China Clay Company has a quantity of brickmaking machinery on its property at Glen Massey and the foundations are" being prepared JOr its reception.
