MOTOR-DRIVERS FINED.
HAMILTON PROSECUTIONS. SPEEDING AND OTHER CHARGES. • (BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. J HAMILTON, Friday. A fine of £3 was imposed on a commercial traveller, Oscar Svensen, for passing over a railway crossing immediately in front of a train. Defendant had missed a collision with a train by about a yard, but said he had no recollection of the circumstances and could not remember whether he passed over the crossing that day or not. He was ordered to pay £3 3s solicitor's fee and 7s costs. Two youths, Leonard Hedge and Raymond Rice, were fined £5 each for riding motor-cycles round the corner of, Grey and Bridge Streets in a manner dangerous to the public. The traffic inspector stated that the defendants turned the corner afc from 25 to 30 miles an hour. ;{! A Frankton hotelkeeper, Charlies Lafferty, was charged with speeding round a corner and with cutting the corner. He pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given that defendant was driving at from IS to 20 miles an hour. Defendaut denied that the car was travelling at an excessive speed, and said he moved in from the route he was following in' order to avoidcollision with another car. Defendant was convicted and fined £7 and costs.
