PLANT ACCLIMATISATION.
SEEDS OF GIANT TOMATO.
The Auckland Acclimatisation Society's plant branch met yesterday, Mr. F. Carr Rollett presiding. Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., distributed seeds of a giant tomato, specimens of whose fruit are said to weigh up to lib., and also seeds of the largo banana-shaped passion fruit from Queensland, whose flowers measure nearly a foot across. The United States Department of Agriculture wrote stating that the samples of Jala maize which had been passed by tho Federal Horticultural Board, had been returned by the New Zealand authorities owing to lack of certificate, but that if the department succeeded in maturing seed a further sample would be sent. The Auckland Earing Club and Kaipara Agricultural Association notified their willingness to become members of tie plant branch. The New Zealand Institute of Horticulture requested thai the plant branch should affiliate with it, but the council decided to decline the request. , It was reported that a parcel of spartma roots had been received from Mr. Dal-/ rymple, of Feilding, and these were distributed to , the . Department of Agriculture; the agricultural instructor of the Technical College, Auckland, and.others.
