A case involving the liability of a ; farmer for' accidents occurring to neigh- ~<■ bouring farmers when they w® helping him at harvest time was heard before the Arbitration Court at New Plymouth to-day. On if arch 12 Bobert GouUeh fii was killed at Lowgarth by being struck on the head by a derrick of hay. The widow sued Albert Thomas Burke, on whose, place the accident occurred, for £750 compensation. She and two sftull children, she said, were entirely depeudent on her late hnsbsmd's * support. On the day of his death lie was working for Burke as a labourer at 2s an hour. The defence held that deceased had wot worked for Burke in the capacity of a casual labourer, but as an independent farmer working solely on his own Account. After hearing considerable legal argument on the question whether deceased was or was not an employed workman, the Court gave judgment for the de- , fendant. ■ - ■ • ........
