The Junior Management Committee recommended that the curtain-raisera for the second test match .on Saturday be as follow:—Fifth grade, Parnell v. Noithcote, 12.45 p.m.; Sixth B Grade, Richmond v. City, 1.45 p.m. AUCKLAND TOURING TEAM. WEST COASTERS DEFEATED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GRBYMOUTH, .Wednesday. The Auckland League representatives defeated West Coast by 22 points to 15. The weather was fine and there was a good attendance. The game was hard fought, but the Ancklanders handling and combination were superior. Some tries were due to defective tackling by the local backs. The Coast forwards bad the better of the loose play. O'Brien scored from a loose rush, Mouatt converting, and further points for West Coast were added from a penalty goal. Then the Auckland backs, short passing, sent Kirkland away along the side-line to score in the corner. More Auckland passing saw Peckham cross and before half-time further passing by the backs enabled Riley to send Colo over, the visitors leading by 9 points to 7. Upon changing ends Cole soon scored from a passing movement and converted. Then from a scram Quinn brcke away to score, Mouatt converting. Passing by Peckham. Cole and Davidson enabled List to score, and a further passing bout ended in Townsend kioking over the line and scoring. Cole converted. Quinn. when dribbling over was tackled behind by McDonald, and a penalty try was awarded. LAST SATURDAY'S MATCH. A TRY AND THE CORNER FLAG. With reference to last Saturday's matoh between New Zealand and Queensland. W. E. Simpson writes, inter alia, as follows: "I wish to deal with 'Spectator's' letter which appeared in your publication of Monday, in which he ask 3 for a ruling on the following: 'ln crossing the line can a player ground the ball and in so doing carry away the corner flag and yet receive a try?'- I might state that the ruling under consideration is that a score be awarded. but while admitting this fact, I wish to make it quite clear that that is not what exnetly took piiP-> in Saturday's match, when the New Zealanders were given a try. Being observant I noticed the whole incident, and I can clearly state that the ball was grounded before the scorer and his opponent became mixed up with the corner flag. This, no doubt, was a fair try, as both the line umpire and referee were at a point of vantage to see 'Spectator' next complains about the refereeing by stating that the whistle-holder made too much use of his whistle. Australians know that there is a rule which clearly states obstruction is not allowed, but the whole trouble is that the whistio-holders in Australia are not as severe as our men on that rule, consequently the rule has become lax with them in their own country. There is in this case no such thing as an interpretation."
