VOYAGE IN A SLOOP.
COMMANDER MAUDE SAFE. DANGERS OF ADVENTURE/ A. cud N.Z. VICTORIA (B C.). Aug. 10. Commander Maude, who left in a sloop for England in May, and the mystery of whoso whereabouts has caused anxiety for several weeks, landed at an Indian villago on the Washington coast on Sunday. H<> was partially blinded by tho sun's glare. Commandor Maude said he was struck on tho head b,y the boom and lay for many days semi-conscious. Ho drifted as far south as Santa Barbara.
Commander Eustace Mnudo, R.N., is 77 yoars of ago. He left Victoria, British Columbia, in the 26ft. sloop Half Moon on May 1, bound to England. The aged advonturer took with him provisions for 100 days, 50 gallons of water and tho same quantity of gasoline. Tho Half Moon has a five horse-power engine.
