WHANGAREI HOSPITAL.

THE OLD PEOPLE'S HOME. KAMO SPRINGS REJECTED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI. Tuesday. After adjourning to Kamo Springs, the Whangarei Hospital Board failed to comply with the suggestion backed by departmental officers that the proposed old people's home should bo located there. A committee was set up to try to secure a site adjacent to the hospital, or to consider the selection of a position within i the hospital giounds. The board decided to arrange a meeting at Portland, where there are over 600 • inhabitants, to urge the formation of medical clubs similar to those existing at Hikurangi and Waipu, in which contributors are covered for tho cost of .hospital treatment for a small regular contribution. A suggestion that funds should be raised to provide a wireless receiver in the wards was referred to a committee upon the recommendation of the medical superintendent. After a lengthy debate no decision was reached regarding tho proposed renewal of an agreement with the local friendly societies in regard to tho societies guaranteeing payment of fees for hospital benefit to members to the extent of 50 per .cent. That rato rules in Auckland and elsewhere, but as Auckland collects only about 30 per cent, of the patients' fees it was contended that Whangarei, which collected 66 per cent, during the past four years, should require a guarantee of at least 60 per cent.
