MOTOR-CAR ACCIDENT.
CRASH ON MANGERE BRIDGE.
CAR GOES PVER EMBANKMENT.
OCCUPANTS' NARROW ESCAPE,
A remarkable escape from injury was experienced by tho two occupants of a three-seater motorcar which crashed into tho railings and over tho southern embankment of Mangero Bridge at about half-past nine o'clock yesterday morning. The car, which was being ctfiven by Mr. Otto Wolfgraram. of Eden Crescent, was | badly damaged. In a statement to tho police, Mr. Wolfgramrn said that ho, in company with a friend, Mr. Collins, was crossing tho bridge, travelling toward Mangere, when the car skidded to tho right. Ho was unable to right its course and it crashed into tho railings. The forco ot tho impact may bo judged by tho fact that the car stripped six of tlie 4in. by bin. concrete posts from tho sido of tho bridge and snapped the l£in. water pipe railings beforo going over tho embankment. Wlien tho car came to rest one of tho front wheels was on the sidewalk and the back wheels were 2ft. or 3ft, from tho water, of which there was a depth of 6ft. or bit. at the time. Tho front portions of both mudguards were stripped olf, the radiator damaged and tho body badly buckled. As far as could bo judged, tho engine and chassis woro little damaged. Tho car was prevented from going into tho water by one of tho iron pipes, which had luckily become twisted round the rear portion. According to police estimates, the distance from tho point where tho car skidded to where it came to rest was 34yds.
