WEISMULLER AND BORG. REMARKABLE PERFORMANCES. (Received. 6.5 p.m.) Renter. NEW YORK, Aug. 1. At tho swimming championship meeting at Seattle, Washington, yesterday, J. Weismuller broke tho world's 100 yards free-stylo record. Ho swam the distance in 50 4-ss. Arno Borg created a world's record for the 1000 metres, which he swam in 13m. 17 3-10s. Weismuller's time is 1 4-ss. faster than his previous world's record of 52 3-ss. established in a 25yds. bath in May, 1922. Although he is only 21 years of ago he holds 12 world's records ovor various distances up to 500 m. Is is practically certain that Weismullor will tour Australia at the end of the year and the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association is now negotiating for an extension of his visit to include tho Dominion. Tho high calibro of Borg's performance is evidenced by tho fact that ho has broken tho Australian'swimmer, "Boy" Charlton's, world record of 13m. 19 3-55., f)ut up in July, 1924, in a bath 50 metres ong. Since his visit, to Auckland la/?c> year tho Swedish swimmer has greatly improved.
