1 1 *tP*' 1 ■ - LAWN TENNIS IN AMERICA. AUSTRALIANS AT SEABRIGHT, (Received 5.5 p.in.) A. and N.Z.—Reutcr. NEW YORK, Auk. 1. At tho Seabright tennis tournament Vincent Richards defeated J. 0. Anderson (Australia) in the final of tho singles for the Seabright bowl, 6 —l, 4—6, 6—o, 6—o. Richards'' victory assures for him the second place in the American Davis Cup team, as ho had already defeated Patterson in the semifinals. Tho match between Anderson and Richards gave every promise oJ: developing into an evenly-fought duel for two sets, but Andcreon's speed and effectiveness suddenly deserted him after a splendid exhibition in the second set. Richards then won 12 games in succession. The play in these was so one-sided that the critics wondered whether Anderson was out of condition, or not particularly keen. Some commentors profess to believe the Australians are here for the Davis Cup, first and last, and that nothing else matters to them. William Johnston and Peck Griffin won the men's doubles. They defeated the Kinsey Brothers, B—6, 7—5, 6 —l. Miss Elizabeth Ryan and Miss Eleanor Goss won the final of the women's doubles. They defeated Miss Helen Wills and Miss Mary' Browne, 11—9, 6—l.
