THE MUNICIPAL BAND.
Sir,—May-I; express my appreciation o? thft excellent performances, of crar Mtmicipal Band and the wonderful result achieved by the bandmaster in 60 short a time. I would, however, very much desire to see a little more grand opera included in the band numbers. I may ba wrong, but I think that with the exception of a selection and certain excerpts from " Tannhauser," the " Flying Dutchman," overture, and one or two duete from Italian bperss, we have not BO far been fortunate enough io 1 be fairly conducted info the realms of delight grand opera discloses, j It would certainly seem that public interest in grand/opera has recently, thanks to the gramophone and the visits ,of notable musical celebrities, received a steady and much desired revival. It remains now for our Municipal Band to bring it to those who are not the fortunate possessors s of a gramophone, or who cannot, perhaps, 'jj afford to pay the prohibitive prices exacted by the box-office tyrants at tha celebrity concerts.
