ORIGIN AND PROPORTIONS. The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board has beon advised by its London manager that tho supply of meat and liko produce to tho London Central Markets during the five months ended May aggregated 193,703 tons, as against 203,019 tons in the same period last year, a decrease of 9316 tons. Imported supplies, part from produce originating in Ireland, formed 81.2 per cent, of tho total quantity of produce marketed. British and Irish supplies aggregated 36,393 tons, or 18.8 per cent, of tho total supply,-New Zealand and Australia 33,999 tons, or 17.6 per cent., Argentina 90,729 tons, or 46.8 per cent., ana tho Netherlands and other foreign countries 32,582 tons, or 16.8 per cent. The following are the shipments to tho United Kingdom for the fortnight ended July 23 from Argentine and Uruguay;— 175,656 quarters chilled beef, 16,571 quarterns frozen beef, 77,388 carcases frozen mutton, 108,750 carcases frozen lamb. The quantity shipped to the Continent of Europo during the same period totalled: 80,964 quarters frozen beef, 5647 carcases frozen mutton. AUSTRALIA'S PUBLIC DEBT. A TOTAL OF £1,000,000,000 With tho floating of a new Australian loan of £20,000,000 in the United States and Great Britain the total indebtedness of the Commonwealth and the States approaches the mammoth total of £1,000,000,000. Of this sum the Commonwealth's share is a little more than £400,000,000, and that of the States a little less than £600,000,000. That this large debt is no remote and inconsequential a thing, says the Melbourne Argus, becomes apparent when tho anuual interest bill of nearly £50,000,000 has to bo met, or one or more of tho loans fall due. FAT LAMB EXPORT. NEW SOUTH WALES MOVEMENT. At a recent meeting of the Chamber of Commerce at Molong, N.S.W., the president, Mr. F. A Bamford, said that tho suggestion had been made that breeders of fat lambs should unite in arranging, during tho coming spring, for tho direct export of a consignment of fat lambs to the London market. It was desired that such consignment should consist of at least 1000 lambs, and already several district breeders had expressed their willingness to participate. The president of tho Australian Meat Council had stated that that body would also assist in every way possible in tho undertaking, would have the lambs slaughtered in Sydney, and tho pelts and by-products disposed of, and arrange for the conveyance of the carcases to England, and their disposal in London. 'lt was notorious that at the present time Australian fat lambs were ticketed and sold in tho London market as of New Zealand production, said Mr. Bamford. New. South Wales produced lamb and mutton of a quality that would compare very favourably with that of any other country, and it should be sold in London under its own name, and by merit make its own reputation. PEDIGREE JERSEY SALE. THE ROSY CREEK OFFERING. , Messrs. R. P. Morrissoy and Co. and [Wright, Stephenson and Co., conducted 1 the eighth annual sale of Rosy Creek Jersey heifers and bulls on account of Messrs. A. and J. O'Donnell at Hawera I last week. The attendance from outside districts was good, but tho sale was only moderately successful, prices generally being in keeping with those obtained at tho majority of sale 3 hold in Taranaki during the past fow* months. The only I keenness shown in the bidding was when those animals bred from the best proven butter-fat lines were offered. Tho top price of 77gns. was paid for Viola's Golden Peace, whose dam, Perfection oi Rosy Creek, produced 5751b, , butter-fat as a junior two-year-old. Tho i purchaser of this hoifer wias Mr. D. Two other of tho heifers realised over 40 guineas. Mr. E. Brodcrick, Wanganui, paid 42gns. for a daughter of Princess of Rosy Creek, which made a record of 5541b. fat as a junior two-year-old. Mr. Johnstone, who also purchased Lady Zola at 43gns., must have secured tho bargain of the sale, for this heifer is out of tno same dam as the i gold medallist, Zola of Rosv Creek, 7411b. butter-fat as a - junior three-year-old, and her siro is Caius, who is out of the samo dam as Sultan's Daisy, 9681b. fat. The dam of this bull, Perfection of Rosy Creek, was the winner of the First Taranaki Oaks, and produced 6501b. fat as a junior two-year-old. Mr. A. Duke, Wangaehu, secured tho two-year-old bull Lord Caius for 40gns. This bull is from the samo family as Zola of Rosy Creek, and his own dam produced 5281 d. fat under test. The bulls were all exceptionally well bred for butter-fat production, and aihough a majority of tnem were grandsons of Viola's Golden Laddie, the averago price paid "was only 28£gns. Others were secured by Messrs. A. Hooper, Waverley, A. McCracken and G. H. Butler, Manaia, Mr. Hooper securing tho larger proportion.
