The outstanding performer at the Auck-' land Winter Meeting was Sir Rosebery. who put the seal on his fame for evil timei by accounting for tho Great Northern double. THE BRISBANE CUP. TE KARA'S VICTORY. Australian papers to hand bring dotaik of the contest for the Brisbane Cup, on the 3rd instant, which race was won by the Auckland gelding Te Kara, under the heavy impost of 9.10. The. following is an account of the race:— From an excellent start the first out was Mountain Song, closely, followed by Tabto the front, and at the half-mile was m front of Sim , Dallas and Tabragalba, who were just ahead of Royal Roue and Grimaldi. Two lengths away came Loyal Shepherd and Te Kara Grimaldi led into the straight tho first time round, and passing the stand was five lengths in front cf Alabama. and a length away came Sim Dallas. Mountain Song, Ray Rivers, Te Ivara and Tabragalba, in that order. Along the back Grimaldi was two length* m front of Sim Dallas and Alabama, and half a length away came Mountain Song, two lengths m front of To Kara. Alabama showed the way into tho-straight, a length in front of Te Kara. The New Zealand gelding (hen . threw out a strong challenge, and disposing of the opposition in fino style, he 'drew away and won comfortably by two lengths from Mountain Song (7.11). Time. 3m 26}s. Te Kara, who started in the position of favourite, was accorded an ovation.

AUSTRALIAN RACING. RANDWICK WINTER MEETING. (A.* and N.Z.) SYDNEY, June 9. The Australian Jocko.v Club's Winter Meeting opened at Randwick yesterday. Piidin had established a commanding lead of ten lengths at the head of the straight. Roisel and Jupiter being his closest attendants. When the Leger Reserve was reached Piidin had still sis lengths the best of it. and ho ran home an easy winner five lengths in advance of Jupiter, who in turn was a neck in front of Roisel. Other borses-booked to go to Sydney by the same steamer are Queen March. Heatherford and h mare by Archiestown. It is understood that Queen March is being pent across with a view to being mated with an imported horse at one of the leading studs. The Ellerslie trainer, J. Williamson, intends leaving for Sydney by the Ulimaroa on r ridav on a holiday trip. At Ellerslie yeaffcrday Oualoid (H. Ilastedt) waa schooled over hurdles and the steeplechase fences in the centre of > the rsurse. .He fenced well. Miss . Rosa (N Kovve) jumped several hurdles in good style.
