May 21, Mr. William Jennings (Bryan, the "sil-ver-tongued orator," who lias smral times been Democrat candidate for Hits United States Presidency,, will aid tho prosecution in a test case; in regard to the new State law in Tennessee which prohibits the teaching of evolution in public schools. A high school teacher, John Scope, who was arrested while lie was lecturing on evolution, will be defended by Judge Randolph Meal, one of tho most famous lawyers in the South. Commenting ort Mr. Bryan's stand against evolution, Dr. W. J. Mayo, in an interview at Rochester, said: "I find science to bo but an explanation of religion. Mr. Bryan may be sincere in his belief, but h<i 'has had no scientific training and coimqnently does not and cannob understand ;he facts relating to evolution, "There is no nutation among scientific men regarding evolution. Not that we are descended from monkeys, which is mere nonsense, but that life is constant evolution, morally, mentally and physically, and will continue to bo so.
