May 30, Three men have been arrested at Lo« Angeles in connection with an alleged plot to kidnap the well-known film, star Mary Pickford (Mrs! Douglas Fairbanks). The police state that the men arrested, who had been shadowed for two weeks, had planned to disguise themselves as shriners (.who are now in convention at Los Angeles) and to operate with a car decorated with shrine colours. Miss Pickford was to have been abducted from her motor-car while shewas bound for her home from the studio. Her chauffeur was to havo been sandbagged. The kidnappers intended to demand 100,000 dollars on tho day following tho abduction and to increase their demands as tho search spread. Miss Pickford was selected after Po'ia Negri, Buster Keaton and other leading lights at Hollywood had been con" sidered. Miss Pickford was in co-operation with the police. For over a week sha went through her picture work as usual. Her home was heavily guarded.'' Adrian Wood, ■ one of the men arrested, gave details of the-plot in a signed confession.
