FIGHTING IN MOROCCO.
BIFFS' HEAVY LOSSES. FRENCH SUFFER SEVERELY. LIST OF THE CASUALTIES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Router. PARIS, May 30. Reports from French sources in Morocco state that the Riff tribesmen sustained heavy losses in the recent operations. Over 1000 were killed and wounded on Monday in the Bibone region. During the debate in the Chamber of Deputies on the Moroccan position the Premier, M, Painleve, said the French casualties in Morocco so far were 400 killed (of whom two-fifths were French and three-fifths natives) and 1100 wounded. M. Painleve assured the Chamber that he would not unnecessarily prolong the ! pacificatory operations. At the conclusion of the three days' debate on the Moroccan question the Chamber passed a vote of confidence in the Government by 537 votes to 29. The huge majority was due to the careful phrasing of the resolution. This was done chiefly to meet the susceptibilities of the Socialists, who had stipulated for the insertion of a reference to a policy of pacification, and a record of the Chamber's opposition to colonial expansion.
