WAIKATO HOSPITAL.
COMPLAINT OF CONGESTION. MORE WARDS REQUIRED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Friday. That Ihero would be difficulty in providing accommodation in tlie isolation block at the Waikato Hospital in the event of another epidemic of any magnitude was mentioned by the medical superintendent in his annual report to the Hospital Board. The block, he stated, had been severely taxed by the recent infantile paralysis outbreak. Men and women suffering from the more chronic diseases had been accommodated in Ward V,, taken over temporarily from the Old People's Home. It was unsuitable as a hospital ward, and its use as such reduced the accommodation badly required by the home. Plans pero prepared two years ago for two wards of 50 beds at the oast end of the main corridor, but the congestion at that time was relieved by the acquisition of buildings from Cambridge. Even if these wards were commenced at once the accommodation could bo put to full use without considering future demands. Reference was also made to the accommodation at the Old Men's Home, which was described as totally inadequate. The sleeping quarters wore dismal in the extreme, and there was nothing in the shape of a dining room.
