GLEN EDEN ROADING.

, Sir,—Regarding a report of the Glen Eden Town Board which appeared in a recent issue of tho Herald, touching on the reconstruction of the West Coast Road, may I ask if the Town Board has considered any alternative routes, and if it is obtaining an estimate of the relative cost of the respective routes for submission to the ratepayers ? The present West Coast Road via Croyden Crossing is a very circuitous one with a steep gradient, whereas by taking Brandon Iload the distance is considerably. lessened and tho gradient one of the easiest in the district; consequently the cost would be infinitely less. Another route is via Cemetery Road, and although not as short or convenient as Brandon Road, would be even cheaper as it would 110 doubt be substantially subsidised by the Auckland City Council, whose property would be considerably enhanced in value thereby. If we are to have .a highway in bitumen or concrete, then the ratepayers should have the most economical proposal submitted to them for consideration. I would like to warn the ratepayers that any further loan proposals should receive their careful consideration, for although we are at present rated on the unimproved value, this may not always pertain, likewise the present low ratable valuations, as witness the action of the Town Board in asking the Government for a revaluation of the Town Board district, consequent on the rating on unimproved value being carried. Ratepayer.
