THE PAENGAROA ROAD. [nv TKLKfi I!.V I'll. —OWN COItBESI'ONDENT. ] TAUJIANGA. Monday. Ratepayers of the Pongakawa district of the Tauranga county met the riding members on Saturday, when the proposals in regard to the bituininisinj of the Pae-ngaroa-Te Puke Road was discussed. The estimated cost is £IO,OOO, half of which, it was explained, would be provided by the ratepayers and the other half by the Main Highways Board. Keen interest was displayed in the proposed scheme, which includes the metalling of the Swamp Road, and in addition to other work tho purchase of plant. A resolution was curried recommending that a poll be taken to raise a loan, full details to be submitted to ratepayers prior to tho taking of the poll. The question of the County Council contributing toward the cost ol a Bay of Plenty court at the forthcoiVing Duiicdin unci South Seas Exhibition was also discussed. It was explained that the probable contribution required from the council would be at least £2OO. Nothing definite was decided, but the opinion was expressed that the growing taxation levied by local bodies was an increasing burden upon ratepayers.
