SUITCASE DISAPPEARS.
THEFT CHARGE DENIED. MAN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL, The disappearanco of a suitcase and contents, valued at £7 10s, from tho basemont of a residenco in Heme Bay about May 1, led to a charge of breaking, entering and theft being preferp|d against Frederick Theodore Desmond" Poulton, aged 26, in the Police Court yesterday before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M The charge was subsequently reduced, at tho suggestion of Chief-Detective Cummings, to one of theft from a dwelling. Evidence was given by Jack Don, residing at 28, Clifton Road, that a suitcase and contents disappeared from tho basement of his house. The door of tho basement had not been locked. Ho next saw the articles at tho police station on May 19. , A licensed pawnbroker deposed that afceused pledged a suitcase for 15s on May 7. Detective Knight said he went to interview accused, who saw him approaching and threw some papers into a fire. He recovered two portions.of a pawn-ticket from the flames. He also traced tho suitcase at the second-hand shop and tho stolen articles at accused's lodgings. Accused, who was not represented by counsel, pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
