LONG RADIO TESTS.

AMERICA TO AUSTRALIA. HEARD IN ASHBURTON. LITTLE SUCCESS ELSEWHERE. Ashburton seems to bo the only place so far to report definite reception of the radio broadcast tests from the 'United States to Australia on Thursday evening. It is stated a few Wellington listeners caught brief snatches of music, which were more or less identifiable as parts of the tests, but nothing like* Consistent reception was reported. In Auckland local radio Activities are reported to have had an adverse effect. The Ashburton correspondent of the Hekald states that one enthusiast, working under very adverse conditions, with water dripping on to the set, had no trouble in picking up KFI Los Angelps, and WLW, Cincinnati. Numerous other carrier waves and fragments Of music and speech were picked up, but not ppsi* tively identified. One station; whose announcement" was' hlotted out by static" and local interference, gave a talk <oh aeroplanes and aeroplane engines, nearly all of which wis understood and followed with interest. Unfortunately, the missing of the dill sign prevented the discovery of the station's rdentity and location. As the above reception was accomplished in half ■ an hour on a two-valve set, it is probable others working under more favourable conditions would bo successful in identifying most of the stations taking part m the test. WHAG, Long Island, WOR, Newark, WLW, Cincinnati, WCCO, Minneapolis, WHAG, Chicago, ,WCC, Daveport, and DFI, Los Angeles were the broadcasting stations participating, and the time was 4 to 6 a.m., New York time, 8.30 to 10.30 p.m., New Zealand time.
