LONDON RETAIL PRICES. "NEARLY 100 PER CENT/* Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 7.5 p.m.) LONDON. Apl. 16. The Daily Telegraph, in an article on Empire fruit, points out the damaging effect of the high retail prices of Australian and New Zealand apples. It says that the smallest Cox's Orange, which cost under a shilling a pound • wholesale, aro being retailed at threepence each, which represents nearly a hundred per cent, increase between the wholesale dealer and the retailer. This, says tho paper, means restricted public demand. Tho fruit becomes stale and the prestige of tho producing countries suffers.
