NO SUNDAY TENNIS.
THE ROTORUA PROPOSAL. ASSURANCE FROM MINISTER. A reply to the Presbytery's resolution urging the Government to refuse to grant permission for the playing of tennis on the Government grounds at Rotorua on Sundays was received last night by the Auckland Presbytery, from the Minister in charge of Tourist and Health Resorts, Hon. W. Nosworthy, to whom the matter had been referred by the Prime Minister. The Minister's letter stated that as far as he knew there had been nothing which could rightly be described as " a determined effort " to commence Sunday tennis-playing. The only representations which had been made to him in favour of Sunday tennis were from two persons, who spoke as individuals, and not on behalf of the tennis club or any other organisation. In any case, the Presbytery could rest assured that there was no in tention of allowing tennis to be played on the Government grounds on Sundays.
