LILYDALE TRAGEDY.

RAILWAY CLERK'S DEATH. CAUSE WRAPPED IN MYSTERY. A. and N. 7,. MELBOURNE. Mar. 0. The police are seriously handicapped in their investigation of tho death of the young railway clerk, William Dent, who was found shot on a road near Lilydale, owing to tho lack of information regarding his movements on the previous night. An examination of the body showed that the wound in the head was caused by a bullet from a small calibre rifle. This had lodged in the forehead, above the left. eye. The shot was fired from some distance away. Dent was fully dressed. Two bloodstained handkerchiefs were found near him. There was blood on his coat from the lapel downwards. This suggests that he received the wound while he was standing. Patches of blood were found on the road some distance from where (he body was lying. The youth did not regain consciousness before he died.
