ESTABLISHMENT OF PEACE.

AIMS OP THE POWERS. DISARMAMENT CONFERENCE. i AMERICA AWAITING HER CUE. By Telegraph—-Press Association—Copyright. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Router. WASHINGTON. Feb. 20. Unofficial reports havo been received hi Washington to the effect that. Britain is willing to co-operate with the United States in the proposal to hold another Limitation of Armaments Conference. Ihe news has caused gratification. Similar expressions from other nations must be awaited, however, before formal steps relating to the time and place- for the proposed conference can be considered. The President, Mr. Calvin Coolidgc, is of the opinion that the informal conversations with the other Powers on the subject have not reached a point which would justify him in calling such a conference before the working-out of the disarmament project originated by the League of Nations. In a speech before the EnglishSpeaking Union at Louisville the British Ambassador to the United States, Sir Esme Howard, said a firm and sympathetic understanding between America and Britain and her Dominions, under which a settlement by force of any disputes between them would be unthinkable, would be the greatest step toward the establishment of peace that has yet been taken. Sir Esme said he could not predict the fate of tho Geneva protocol for compulsory arbitration, but, one thing was certain, namely, that the British Empire would not stand for any international agreement, which might bring it into serious conflict with tho Lnited States.
