GOLD STANDARD.

RESTORATION OPPOSED. "A DANGEROUS PROCEEDING." A. *nd N.Z. LONDON. Feb. 20. Mr. ,F. M. Keynes, editor of the Economic. Journal and chairman of Nation, Ltd., writing in the Nation, strongly opposes the proposal that Britain should return to the gold standard. Be says the whole object of the suggestion is to rigidly link London with Wall Street. To return to the gold standard would mean, in practice, that broadly the same price level and money rates would rule, in Britain as in the United States. Mr. Keynes urges the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Winston Churchill, the Governor of the Bank of England, and others, who secretly settle Britain's destiny, to reflect It might, he says, be a dangerous proceeding. Continuing, the writer says the United States lives on a vastly increasing crescendo, owing to her constantly-growing economio activities. She can afford to face future industrial financial tempests, but if Britain experiences them she may drown.
