POLICE COURT NEWS.

A STEWARD'S DISOBEDIENCE. FINE OF £2 IMPOSED. A charge of having refused to obey the commands of the master of the Ulooloo was made against Peter Glen, aged 30, the chief steward of the vessel, in the Police Court on Saturday, before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M. Accused pleaded guilty. For the prosecution, Mr. A. Moody stated that the man had some liquor at the time. When the steamer was victualling, accused refused to take in stores. Since the occurrence, the man had asked to be paid off, and the master was agreeable to that. The Magistrate: Another undesirable. Mr. Moody replied that the man had excellent discharges from other steamers. Accused was fined £2. IMPRISONED FOR BAD LANGUAGE. A sentence of 14 days' imprisonment was imposed on Samuel Wallace, aged 37, for having used obscene language. Accused said he had no recollection of the matter. Sergeant Rowell said that Wallace was always the same when he got drunk, and had previously been in trouble for a similar offence. MISCELLANEOUS CASES. William Greig, aged 32, a deserter from the Canadian Traveller, was charged with beipg an idle and disorderly person. Accused, who said he had been working since he had landed, was remanded till next Friday, to which date another man from the same boat has also been remanded. For fighting in the railway entrance, Charles lie id, aged 36, was fined £2, and Robert Davies, aged 32, was fined 20s. A fine of 20s was imposed on Joseph Sullivan for disorderly conduct while drunk.
