PACT FOR SECURITY.

QUESTION TO MINISTER. BRITAIN MOT COMMITTED. NO ALLIANCE WITH FRANCE. By Telegraph—-Press Association—Copyright. (.Received 9.5 p.m.) Renter. LONDON. Feb. 12. In the House of Commons to-day Colonel J. Wedgwood, Labour member for New-castle-under-Lyne, asked whether the Government was considering a new pact for alliance and security with France. He wanted to know whether Parliament would be consulted before the nation was in any way committed' to an alliance which involved a risk of war. The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Austen Chamberlain, replied that the Government had entered into no negotiations with any country for a separate pact. It was engaged in considering questions raised by the Geneva protocol. The Government would not commit tho country to the protocol nor to any fresh obligation of a comparable character without the consent of Parliament.
