THE BOROUGH COUNCIL. [BX TELEGRAPH.-—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA, Thursday. At a meeting of the Borough Council last night it was agreed to tako steps to alter tho by-laws in the direction of prohibiting the use of chains on motor vehicles oti metalled streets. A deputation from the Amateur Swimming Club asked the council to repair tho present baths and to consider tho advisability of erecting new municipal baths. The matter of the repairs was referred to a sub-com-mittee which will also report on the proposal for new baths. A deputation from the cemetery trustees asked for the use of tho council's plant for making a road in a portion of tho cemetery grounds and also suggested consideration of tho question of submitting a loan for cemetery improvements to the borough ratepayers. The first request was agreed to and tho second one i 3 to bo referred to the incoming council. The council decided to sell to the Power Board 200 poles for use in the reticulation scheme. 'lho engineer was authorised to accept the lowest tender for the second machinery unit for tho McLaren's Falls hydro-electric scheme. Tho Bay of Plenty Development League wrote regarding the proposal for a Bay of Plenty court at tho Dunedin Exhibition. Tho council appointed Mr. C. Whiting as delegate to any committee that may bo set up. A tender was accepted for tho cartage of metal for the improvement of various streets.
