ART AND ARCHITECTURE.
PROFESSORIAL APPOINTMENT NEW ERA FOR THE DOMINION. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Thursday. The appointment of a professor of architecture at Auckland University was referred to with gratification by Mr. W. M. Page, president of tho Institute of Architects, at a general meeting today. He heartily congratulated the council on the steps taken that marked the beginning of a new era, and would have a far-reaching and beneficial effect, especially if the appointee was the type of man they were given to understand he was. Not only would it have a stimulating effect "with regard to architecture, but it would tend to a better conception of art generally, and be of inestimable benefit to the whole country.
