The Daily Chronicle, in a special article which it calls "The true story of the attempts to induce some of the All Blacks to join • Northern Union Clubs," says: ''The team had been barely a week in England before club agents began to make inquiries, but they were coldly received. One agent paid the expenses of a non-playing member of the All Blacks' party to visit Oldham. There it was disclosed that M. Brownlie, Nepia, Cooke and Richardson would ho particularly welcome transfers. "The four men in question, however, scorned the suggested defection. The agents then resorted to more direct methods in order to fry and attract Nepia. After the Ulster match he was offered £I2OO cash, plus a tempting bonus. Nepia naively said: 'But they did not show me any money.' " The writer contrasts these details with the earlier story that seven of the All Blacks took the initiative in an inquiry as to terms. Tommy Gibbons, the chief aspirant for the world's heavy-weight boxing championship, announces here that he has not signed a contract with Mr. Tex Rickard to meet Dempsey as announced by tho New York promoter last week. Gibbons will not sign with Rickard until he secures Dempsey's signature. Ho thinks the champion will fight again. DAVIS CUP CONTEST. FRANCE AND ITALY ENTER. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.
