acquittal of accused. JURY'S LONG DELIBERATION. [r,X TELEGRAPH. —FB.ESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN. Wednesday. A charge of sheep-stealing against James Reidy engaged the attention of the Supremo Court during the greater part of to-day. The charges against Reidy were that between May 8 and November 20, 1924, he stole seventeen sheep of the total value of £sl, the property of the Crown. On a second count he was; charged that on or about the same date he received from some person or persons unknown 17 sheep, the property of the CrWn, well knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained.

The jury retired at 10.55 a.m. and did not return until 12.4 p.m., when they ar nonnced that they were unable to agree. The jury was again ordered to retire by Mr. Justise Sim. At 4.45 His Honor directed that, *be jury be again brought iu. The foreman, in answer to His Honor, said a majority of ten-twelfths were in favour of an acquittal. His Honor suggested that the minority agree with the majority. At 5.7 p.m. the jury again returned with a verdict of not guilty.
