SINGAPORE BASE.
REACTION ON JAPAN. COMPETITIVE ARMAMENTS. A. and N.Z. TOKIO. I*eb. 8. The Japanese League of Nations Association has passed a resolution expressing the opinion that the building of the Singapore base may produce an unfavourable reaction on traditional AngloJapanese friendship, and afford a pretext for competitive armaments. The association asserts that the scheme will not harmonise with the spirit of the League, and will nullify the effect of the Washington Conference.
