PRISON FOR .VAGRANCY. * SLEEPING IN THE DOMAIN. ALLEGATION OF BOYCOTT. A substantial list of cases was dealt with in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M. "I admit having no means of support, but this business has been going on for some time, and amounts to a boycott. It is not, my fault," said Georgo Lionel Arnold, aged 42, in answer to a charge of vagrancy Constable Allen said accused confessed that he had spent several nights on a primitive bod in the Domain. Senior-Sergeant Edwards sajs accused had been previously convicted for vagrancy. Captain Davis said Arnold had been an unwilling inmate of tho Salvation Army Home. He laboured under a delusion that he was persecuted, and that tho world was against him. . Mr. Poynton: Ho cannot be allowed to sleep out and starve. A sentence of three months' imprisonment was imposed. REMAND FOR CLEAN-UP. A decrepit old man, John Bergin, appeared upon a charge of having been found by night on premises in Hobson Street "Another human derelict," said SeniorSergeant Edwards, in suggesting a remand for a week. • "Ho looks as though he needs disinfecting," remarked Mr. "Poynton, in granting the request. A HALF-WAY CASE. Drunkenness and the use of obscene language was admitted by Mary Ann Fowler, aged 48 (Mr. Reed). Counsel, said accused had a substantial list of previous convictions, duo to drunkenness. Her relatives favoured her committal to Pakatoa Island, as she had benefited by a previous term in tho institution. She was realty a half-way case, and a medical examination was desirable A remand was granted until next Monday. SHOP ATTENDANT ASSAULTED. Michael Joseph O'Brien, aged 35 J Mr. Conlan), who appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., denied having assaulted a young woman in a shop in Grey Street. Complainant 1 said she was relieving the regular shop attendant. Accused, who was under the influence of liquor, bought a box of matches and then made an objectionable remark. Witness ordered lnm to leave the shop and pushed him away. He turned and smacked her on the chin. The defence was a; denial that the alleged remark had been made.' The magistrate said complainant's .'version was "more convincing, and accused was fined £2. ALLEGED THEFT OF MONEY. A remand for a week was granted in tho case of William Rennie, aged 26, who was charged with the theft of £4.
