NATIVE SCHOOL TEACHERS.

CONFERENCE IN JANUARY.

Preliminary arrangements in connection with the Native School Teachers' Association annual conference are being made. Tho conference, which will bo held on January 13, 14, and 15, in the Auckland Y.M.C.A. rooms, will give the native teachers of the province an opportunity of discussing many matters* of importance in connection with thenwork.

Ono of the outstanding features of the conference will bo the discussion of plans for making the association more useful to its members, and to the native school service generally. A notice of motion that the association affiliate with the New Zealand Educational Institute has been tabled, and it is hoped that, in view of the importance of this matter, there will be a large and representative attendance of teachers. Ways and means for bringing out once more the paper To Waka Maori will also bo discussed.

A paper on the Dalton system of education will bo read by Dr. J. W. Mcllwraith, inspector of schools, who has recently returned from England, where he made close investigation into tho working of tho Dalton plan. Other papers dealing with subjects of interest to tho teachers will bo presented, and one afternoon will be dovotod to a discussion on tho social aspect of Maori education.
