HAMILTON BOROUGH SCHEME

[BV telegraph.—own correspondent.] HAMILTON. Saturday. ✓Encouragement in connection with the Hamilton Borough Council's now scheme of insurance w,-;b received at the council meeting on Wednesday, when, contrary to [ a statement wade when the scheme was } discussed a week ago, advice was received I that the Auckland. Harbour Board's sysi tern of insurance was entirely satis- ! factory. The Auckland Harbour Board's j scheme, it was stated in a letter written | by th-a secretary, was instituted in 1913, i and included fire, marine, workers' acci- ! dent, machinery accident, and public I risks. The board paid into the fund pre- | miums which it would ordinarily pay to the insurance companies, and invested" the money on mortgage or in local debentures. Apart from the workers' *mdont ! insurance- the calls upon the fund had been few, and the accumulated funds now amounted to over £60.000. It was mentioned, however, that the board did I not carry the whole of its fire risks, only j the wharves and sheds being included in ! the schtme. Houses occupied by the staff. (lie workshops buildings and machinery were insured in reputable companies.
