CHRISTMAS FOR PATIENTS. SUNSHINE LEAGUE'S GIFTS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN GOBBSdP'iNDENT. I HAMILTON. Sunday. The Waikato Hospital Patients' Sunshine League is carrying out its usual activities in connection with hospital matters during Christmas time. Every patient, and there are approximately 200, is to receive* a suitable gift, accompanied !by a greetings card. The children in the " Sunshine " ward are to have a Chrismas tree, in addition to a visit from " Santa Claus." Each of the inmates of the Old Men's Home will receive a pipe and sweets. Several- ladies of the league on Thursday afternoon conducted the annual strawberry and'cream function at the hospital. About 200 patients were provided for, also the inmates of the Old Men's i Home. Through the efforts of the league the I sum of about £140 was recently raised | for the hospital, and was devoted to the erection of a boat shed and jetty at the lake for the use of the nursing staff. A strip of land was donated as a right-of-way from the Hospital Road to the boat shed. The work has been completed, and an official opening was conducted by the chairman of the board, Mr. J.- P. Bailey, who congratulated the nurses on their good fortune and expressed appreciation tor the league's efforts. A further donation of money .by the league is to bo utilised in the purchase of garden seats to be placed in the hospital grounds for the benefit of convalescent patients.
