FERRY TO ST. HELIERS.

| RESUMPTION PROMISED.

COMMENCING NEXT MONTH. RESIDENTS' REQUEST GRANTED. The ferry service from Auckland to St. HeliCrs Bay, via Orakei and Kokimarama, which was discontinued on November 2, on account of motor-bus competition, will bo resumed on ' January 5.

For some time past the support accorded the service has not warranted its being continued, and residents have been obliged to depend entirely upon buses. Many residents now want the boats back. Public meetings were therefore called. by the Tamaki Road Board, and a canvass was made of the district to ascertain what support would bo given if the ferry service were resumed. The result of the canvass was that a very large number of people agreed to take tickets for varying amounts. These lists were placed before the ferry company by a deputation headed by the chairman of. tho Tamaki Road Board, Mr. McArthur.

In reply, the Hon. E. W. Alison said the directors recognised that a boat service was essential to the growth of a spaside suburb. They would do their best to meet tho residents, provided the support promised was forthcoming. The sen-ice would be resumed on January 5, and ha and his board of directors assured the deputation of their most cordial desire that their efforts would be successful. That, however, rested with the residents themselves.
