CHRISTMAS CAROLS.
Sir,—Mary Krismuf wrongs me. I am not lacking" in sediment. If • only ■, Mary knew what a'-. sentimental. fool I can bo! What I lack, really, is the cowardice that custon has imposed upon us with regard to such painful episodes as "Shepherds Watch Their Flocks By Night" at 2.30 a.m. on Christmas Day, when vitality is low, and all folk anxious to do their best for their people during tho day, should bo sound asleep in preparation. But thero remains sufficient cowardice in me to make me sign a nom do plume. I am afraid that some lusty soul might point tho ringer at mo and \ growl "Scrooge." Mary will now realise what sort of a miserable mortal I am. and will bestow upon me her pity, I have no doubt. I can't help thinking that under Mary's influence I might have risen above my " nature and even above the torture of 3 a.m. bands. But it is too late. 1 must go my miserable t way, glad that I have struck a blow for the liberty of the individual to sleep, and sorry that Mary is not with me. ' Sandy Claws.
