SUNKEN SHIP'S TREASURE.
I GOLD, SILVER AND RUBIES. A salvage quest for millions of pounds' worth of precious metal and famous Royal jewels buried in the depth of the sea off the coast of Virginia is exciting America. The treasure quest follows the reported location of the Ward liner Merida, which sank' off ("'ripe Charles, Virginia, in May, 1911, following a collision with the steamer the Admiral Farragut. At the time is was stated that the ship had a quantity of silver bullion aboard, but recent reports place the vessel's cargo at much higher value. She is said to contain, £600,000 worth of gold and silver, and an enormous quantity of copper. Among the passengers' lost luggage, too, are said to be the famous rubies of the Empress Charlotte of Mexico, widow of the unfortunate. Emperor MaMiiillian. Two trawlers were sent, out by wealthy Americans to find the spot where the Merida lay, and an effort to salve be;' is to be begun soon.
