CRICKET CONTESTS.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS. GAMES THIS AFTERNOON. Tho senior championship matches commenced last week under the Auckland Cricket Association will bo concluded this afternoon, Agjiinst Ponsonby, on No. 1 wTcket at Eden Park, Eden had knocked up 360 runs for six wickets when stumps were drawn last week. Grafton will resume batting on No.' 2 wicket against University, who were dismissed last Saturday for 133. Grafton have made 53 runs for one wicket. At North Shore the homo team, which has to get 178 runs to equal Parnell's first-day score, will resumo batting, with two wickets down for 52 runs. The third and fourth grade competitions will be advanced a further stage, while the second grade matches commenced last week will be completed. Today will be tho last playing Saturday before the holidays, and tho competitions m all grades will be resumed on January 10Tho Suburban Association's competitions will be continued on tho various grounds. The four senior games started last week— three at the Domain and one at Manu- , cewa—will be finished. Another round will bo played in tho junior grades. CANTERBURY V. AUCKLAND. The selection of a Canterbury cricket aide- to meet Auckland, at Lancaster Park on Christmas afternoon, has been finally completed by the selector, Mr. W. R. Patrick. Those chosen to complete the team are D. McK. Sandman (St. Albans), R. Read (Linwood), M. Boon (Linwood), C. G. Crawford (St. Albans) and A. Cox (Riccarton), twelfth man. Those previously selected are:— C. Blunt (West Christ-church). W. Hayts (West Christchurch), C. Oliver (Sydenham), D. J. Mcßeath (Sydenham), W. Cunningham (Sydenham). A. E. Gasson (Sydenham), W. P.. Patrick (Sydenham).
