OLD MAN'S OFFENCE.
ADMITTED TO PROBATION. The gumdigger, Frederick James Daniel Sams, aged 73, and very deaf, who had pleaded guilty at Houhora to a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl aged 14, was brought before Mr, Justice Stringer in the Supremo Court yesterday for sentence. ■ His Honor said on Wednesday, when Sums was first brought before him, that the girl apparently was of loose moral character and adjourned the rase for further inquiries. His Honor said yesterday that he thought the case was one in which he could reasonably grant probation? and lie fixed (lie period at two years. lie ordered prisoner to pay £1 16s costs within one month.
