FINAL MEETING OF YEAR.

FIVE WEEKS' VACATION.

The work of tho Auckland City Council for the year was brought to a close with the holding of a special meeting last evening. The members of the Works Committee will make an inspection of various works in progress this morning, and following this members will bo freed from official duties until January 22, 1925, when the first meeting of the new year will be held. Members will, however, assemble on December 30, when the Mayor, Sir James Guiison. will present a citizens' address to the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergulson, at the welcome to bo tendered in the Town Hall.

The Mayor staled yesterday that during the recess the work of the council and the work already well organised would be directed by the heads of the various departments. The city engineer was preparing a full programme in respect of the works involved in the recent loan proposals, ami these would be fully considered at the first meeting of the council in the new year. At the conclusion of the meeting last evening the Mayor wished the members of the council tho felicitations of the season, and said they would honour themselves by inviting the heads of departments to join them at. supper.
