IRREGULAR ATTENDANCE.
BOYS AT GRAMMAR SCHOOL.
A HEADMASTER'S CAUTION.
Unsatisfactory attendance of boys in the junior divisions of iho Mount Albert Grammar School is commented upon by tho headmaster, Mr. F. W. Gamble, in his annual report. " I feel moro inclined than ever," ho says, " to be severe in these case when if comes to tho point of recommendation for senior freo places. Parents need to bo reminded that if is not enough for a boy merely to qualify bv satisfactory class work for the award of a senior freo place; attendance and conduct are also big considerations, and this year several hoys missed their clianco of an accredited senior free place because of a failure in one or other ol these conditions."
In a talk to the boys after tho prizegiving ceremony, tho Minister for Education, tho Hon. C. J. Parr, appealed for fair play in tho matter of attendance, out of respect to the lads' parents, many of whom, he said, made financial sacrifices to enable their boys and girls to have a sound cultural education. "This country does moro for secondary education lhan any other country in the British Empire," declared the Minister. In no other country in tho Empire is thero practically freo secondary education for all. a:; in New Zealand, and the least that you bovs can do is to realise tho benefits that the people of this country aro giving you : roll up at school every day, and thereby give some reward to ymir fathers and mothers."
